DEBORAH QUILTER'S PERSONAL

EXERCISE PROGRAM FOR RSI

When it comes to rehabilitating and coping with RSI, appropriate exercise is the single most important thing you can do. However, standard exercise programs can exacerbate existing pain and injuries. Many people with RSI are rightfully frightened to hire personal trainers or join group classes for fear of worsening their condition.

Deborah Quilter has designed a special program to allow people with RSI to increase power while using less effort, and gain suppleness without straining. This way of working naturally encourages efficient body movement. You will work at your own pace and within your own capability to minimize the risk of exacerbating existing injuries. You need not worry about being pushed too far. This approach is ideal for anyone who suffers from chronic pain from other conditions, as well.

Deborah Quilter is a certified personal trainer who has successfully helped many people with various backgrounds achieve a greater level of fitness. She is the author of two books, The Repetitive Strain Injury Recovery Book (Walker, 1998) and Repetitive Strain Injury: A Computer User’s Guide and is a frequent guest on television and radio programs. She holds three respected certifications: American Council on Exercise (personal trainer) and Marymount Manhattan College (group exercise instructor and personal trainer). She has trained many clients who have never worked out before, as well as people with osteoporosis, arthritis, hip, back, shoulder and neck pain, and many other conditions, including asthma, high blood pressure, cancer, fibromyalgia, heart disease, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, peripheral neuropathy and repetitive strain injury. HOLISTIC ERGONOMICS SERVICES

RSI RISK FACTOR ASSESSMENT

How many risk factors for RSI do you or your company face? During an ergonomic assessment, risks will be identified.  They could be stemming from poor workstation setup, poor posture, improper technique or a combination of all three.

RSI PREVENTION SEMINARS

This program is intended to increase awareness about RSI and provide people with basic information about preventing injury that they can immediately apply. The lecture generally lasts approximately 45 minutes, with an additional 15-30 minutes for questions and answers, so it is ideal for lunchtime presentations.

ERGONOMIC WORKSTATION EVALUATION

During the workstation evaluation, ergonomic problems are identified and corrected. You will learn the proper adjustments for your chair, table, keyboard surface and monitor. You will also learn proper placement for the tools you use every day, such as the mouse, keyboard and telephone.

Clients will be able to test an assortment of ergonomic products during the consultation. This can save considerable amounts of money and guess-work.

TECHNIQUE ANALYSIS AND RETRAINING

Improper technique can lead to injury. Technique refers to how you habitually position your hands at the keyboard. First, risky computer habits are identified. Next, safer techniques are introduced. With a little practice, they become second nature to you. Good technique is not intuitive; and very few computer users have received proper instruction in this area, so this training is a critical part of the prevention program.
